Background
A wooden barrel can become a rainwater collector, a planter, a pickling vessel or part of a garden spa. Noderer Holzfasshandel in Bavaria brings these different uses together in a broad product range. For the new website, we started with the visitor's intention: what would they like to do with their barrel? The resulting experience offers several clear ways in, connecting an initial idea with useful information and the existing Fassladen shop.
The challenge
The range needed to make sense without overwhelming the opening screen with a long product list. At the same time, the design needed to convey the material: wood, patina, metal hoops and the history of used barrels. The task combined atmosphere with practical guidance. Visitors also needed routes to information and products without entering the 3D experience. The existing Gambio shop would retain its checkout; prices, options and availability would remain there.
Our solution
We developed three barrel worlds covering gardens and rainwater, the pantry, and saunas and wellness. Warm imagery, dark wood tones and calm typography give each world a distinct character. A walkable virtual barrel hall connects these subjects spatially. Nine discoveries, a rotatable barrel model that opens to reveal its construction, and material explanations invite exploration. Keyboard controls, the scroll wheel and touch arrows provide different ways to move; an alternative image view complements the spatial presentation.
The barrel finder turns the visitor's intended use into a relevant product category. Selected product cards use original photographs and lead directly to the existing shop. The knowledge library adds 24 fully drafted guides, each in German and English, across six subject areas. Search, filters, related articles, source links and print views support practical reading. File-based editing, documented review status and a plan for future topics provide a clear basis for continued development.
A special detail
The implementation contains 76 pre-rendered pages, German and English websites and a Bavarian interface option. Locally hosted fonts, pausable motion and accessibility controls complement the design. Structured content, browser tools and a read-only A2A topic guide are implemented for digital assistants. The guide finds topics and links; it does not place orders or provide live inventory.
The work shown is a development preview. Expert review of the editorial content and the public relaunch are still pending. The atmospheric barrel worlds are labelled illustrations, not photographs of the actual business premises.
The outcome

The virtual barrel hall turns three subject worlds into a walkable space with nine discoveries.
