Background

We developed an author website for Reynarie Portes and her novel Sa Maliit na Bintana. It brings together the book presentation, author profile, reading samples and a book trailer. The website is published at reynarie.com and continues to evolve.

The challenge

The watercolour world of the cover should remain recognisable on the web while leaving room to read. German, English and Filipino need consistent language versions. Visitors should be able to explore the three-dimensional book while text and reading samples remain accessible without 3D.

Our solution

The implementation draws on the original cover's colours and imagery: warm paper surfaces, blue headings, gold accents and book typography. The opening features a three-dimensional book that visitors can rotate with a mouse, touch or keyboard. A cover image remains visible when WebGL is unavailable. Dedicated reading sample pages offer column selection, reading progress and a running chapter indicator. The self-hosted book trailer loads when visitors choose to play it.

A special detail

Light and dark themes, locally hosted fonts and support for reduced motion complement the design. The website is a static Astro site, with Three.js providing the book scene. The book presentation, reading samples and author information are available directly at reynarie.com. Reynarie also has her own house in CAZcity, and the project is exhibited on Aurea in the CAZ universe.

The outcome

A published author website in German, English and Filipino.
An interactive 3D book using the original cover, with a static image alternative.
Reading samples with column selection, reading progress and chapter orientation.
A self-hosted book trailer and light and dark themes.
Available directly at reynarie.com, with a house in CAZcity and an exhibit on Aurea.
